We’re a little more than a month away from the August 23rd premiere of Doctor Who Season 8, so it makes sense that we get to see a wee bit more of our new Doctor than the vague trailers would show us. Hence, here’s a vague, first look photo of Peter Capaldi and Jenna-Louise Coleman from the season premiere!
In this pic, The Doctor (Capaldi) and traveling companion Clara Oswald (Coleman) embark on their first adventure together following the regeneration of the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith). The Doctor is looking a bit ragged, contrasting nicely with how fashionable Clara looks, although I wonder if this might not be barmaid/nanny Clara from the Victorian period at an earlier point in her timeline. Either way, check out the photo below via Entertainment Weekly:
The season premiere, titled “Deep Breath,” is a feature-length adventure set in Victorian England. The story will also feature the return of the Paternoster Gang, the beloved trio of detectives featuring the Silurian Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh), human wife Jenny Flint (Catrin Stewart), and Sontaran butler/nurse Strax (Dan Starkey). The episode was written by executive producer and head writer Steven Moffat, who is excited about the debut of Peter Capaldi as The Doctor.
“It’s a big introduction—he’s the new Doctor,” says Moffat, in his interview with Entertainment Weekly. “There’s no point pretending that it’s not the most interesting, dynamic thing that you’ve got to sell in that first episode. It’s going to be about ‘What’s he like? How’s he different?’ I suppose it feels a bit like a character piece, but there’s plenty of action and nonsense and jeopardy, as there ever is in Doctor Who.”
In short, we can’t wait. And I’m sure BBC can’t wait either, since that’s less time for fans to spoil the show for each other online. But hopefully, that won’t be a problem. After all, August 23rd really isn’t that far away.
